Utah audit reveals state Medicaid paid for ineligible prescriptions for dead people

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) A recent Utah state audit has revealed that Medicaid money was used to pay for a small number of ineligible controlled-substance prescriptions.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2b6sFjH ) that the Auditor’s Office found several problems with Utah’s Medicaid prescription drug controls when examining pharmacy claims data between July 2014 and March 2016.

The report says the state paid for 59 prescriptions written by 11 providers after their deaths, as well as more than 50 prescriptions for 25 people that were filled after the intended recipient died.
