DentaQuest has named a new dental director for its operations in Texas.
Dr. Ronke Ogunbameru, a board-certified pediatric dentist based in Mansfield, will take the reins of the troubled Texas DMO. The Sunlife-DentaQuest press release sent out Thursday says that “she is a three-time graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., earning bachelor’s and DDS degrees, as well as a residency in Pediatric Dentistry.” It further praises her “public health and dental experience [which] includes working in hospital settings, federally qualified health centers, DSOs and private practice across the United States.”
Complaints legion against DentaQuest
It is almost as if DentaQuest’s owners in Canada became frustrated with the large number of provider complaints originating from Texas, despite this winter’s chilly conditions.
This appears to be the case, as DentaQuest’s chief dental officer, Dr. Todd Gray, stated, “This dedicated clinical leadership role will further strengthen our work in Texas and our direct, transparent collaboration with providers.” He also says that he looks “forward to supporting her as she champions oral healthcare access across the state.”
TDMR looks forward to publishing positive articles about DentaQuest as a result of this appointment, rather than continuing to publish numerous scathing articles about DentaQuest’s egregious provider practices and policies.
Hopeful for future
Dr. Ogunbameru is quoted in the press release as saying, “I am passionate about ensuring Texans – in particular Texas children – can access the quality oral healthcare they need while making it easier for providers to deliver this dental care as part of our network. I was drawn to this position for the specific focus on working closely with fellow dental providers and supporting a renewed emphasis on oral health prevention for improved outcomes.”
These are very hopeful words.
Time for a positive change
We welcome Dr. Ogunbameru’s appointment and trust it bodes well for the future of Texas dental providers. The 1.4 million Texas children under Texas Medicaid and CHIP deserve the best in care, and providers deserve to be treated fairly and equitably in providing that care.
