OIG Updating Fraud, Waste and Abuse Detection Algorithms with AI

OIG recently published the following article on its website.  Providers should know that AI is on the job at OIG now.

New tech tools increase OIG productivity

Teams within the OIG Data Operations Division recently launched new efficiency-focused tools that speed up data collection, analysis and distribution.

Performance dashboard

The Statistical Analysis and Data Visualization team has developed a Performance Metrics Dashboard that provides OIG leadership with a centralized, comprehensive view of both current and historical performance measures across the agency.

The dashboard marks a significant improvement over the previous process, which relied on monthly manual updates. Users now benefit from streamlined data processing and enhanced visualization tools, strengthening data reporting, trend analysis and decision-making.

AI-assisted coding tools

The Fraud Analytics team is adopting AI-assisted coding tools to modernize and maintain fraud, waste and abuse detection algorithms. These tools help the OIG translate legacy code into modern programming languages that enhance efficiency, readability and documentation when creating new data tools.

Before fielding AI-developed tools, each product undergoes a human assessment to ensure strict security and privacy safeguards are in place.
