Nearly 13,000 dental professionals needed to fill shortage areas: HRSA

The U.S. needs 12,715 dental practitioners to fill existing shortage areas, according to new data from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The HRSA updated its dashboard showcasing data on health professional shortages June 11.

Five dental notes from the dashboard:

1. There are 7,940 dental professional shortage areas in the U.S.

2. There are 76 million people living in dental professional shortage areas.

3. California, Texas and Missouri have the highest number of dental shortage areas out of all states.
