Owner of Crestar Labs in Spring Hill charged in $86 million Medicare fraud scheme

The owner and Chief Executive Officer of Spring Hill-based Crestar Labs, LLC was charged on Friday for his alleged role in a fraudulent Medicare billing scheme relating to genetic testing of the elderly and cancer patients.

The criminal complaint was unsealed by the U.S. Attorney District of Tennessee, outlining the charges against Fadel Alshalabi, 53, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, who was arrested by federal agents Sunday evening in Chicago.

Alshalabi will return to the Middle District of Tennessee to face the charges.

Following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Alshalabi was charged with aiding and abetting and violation of an anti-kickback federal statute that prohibits bribes or “kickbacks”.
