‘AG Paxton’s actions were lawful,’ internal report concludes; accusers skeptical

A report detailing an internal investigation, released Tuesday by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office, concluded that Paxton committed no crimes in official actions related to friend and political donor Nate Paul, contradicting accusations made last year by top officials who are no longer with the agency.

“AG Paxton’s actions were lawful and consistent with his legal duties,” the unsigned report concluded.

The document also accused “a subset” of Paxton’s accusers of working to cause political damage to the two-term attorney general by discussing their allegations in private meetings with elected officials and their staff.

“These actions were unauthorized, insubordinate, and substantially disruptive to the efficient and effective operation of government,” the report said.
