Delta Dental Recruiting Texas Dentists for Planned Medicaid Expansion

Delta Dental is again eyeing Texas Medicaid.  TDMR has received recent reports from several Texas dentists indicating that Delta Dental is reaching out to recruit providers as part of a planned expansion into the Texas Medicaid market.

According to information provided to TDMR, Delta is seeking to build a network of Texas dentists in anticipation of partnering with “an existing Texas Medicaid managed care organization.”

Not sure what that means, but the company is definitely positioning itself for a larger role in Texas Medicaid dentistry.

Delta Dental was one of the three original dental managed care organizations awarded contracts when Texas transitioned Medicaid dental services to managed care in 2012. However, the company withdrew from the program only months after implementation, leaving MCNA and DentaQuest to serve the market.

In 2016, TDMR reported that Delta was attempting to reestablish a presence in the state, but obviously to no avail.

A decade later, they are trying again.

Delta Dental is one of the nation’s largest dental benefits organizations, best known for its commercial dental insurance products. The company also participates in Medicaid programs in several states.

The development raises questions about which managed care organization Delta Dental may be seeking to partner with and what impact the move could have on the Texas Medicaid dental market.
