Bill banning fluoride in public water passes Louisiana Senate committee

The Louisiana Senate Committee on Health and Welfare passed a bill that would prohibit fluoride from being added to public drinking water, according to an April 24 report from KLFY.

Senate Bill 2 repeals the Louisiana Department of Health’s water fluoridation program and bans any public water systems in the state from adding fluoride.

The bill was amended in committee to add that fluoride that is naturally occurring would not be required to be removed.

Utah became the first state to ban fluoride in its public water supplies in March. A bill was recently passed in the Florida Senate to implement a similar ban.

If passed, the bill would become law in Louisiana starting Jan. 1, 2026, the report said.
