DALLAS (KDAF) — A new analysis has identified significant trends in the Texas healthcare system, with high spending failing to translate into better patient outcomes. The study, conducted by international healthcare recruitment experts Espirita, analyzed healthcare performance metrics across all 50 states.
Medicare spending per beneficiary in Texas stands at $11,694, among the highest in the nation. This figure significantly exceeds spending in states like Hawaii ($6,915) and Utah ($9,820), which achieve better patient outcomes with fewer resources.
The state records 147 potentially avoidable ER visits per 1,000 people for those aged 65 and older. For working-age adults, Texas performs slightly better with 131.2 avoidable visits per 1,000 people.
Texas has a preventable hospitalizations rate of 30.0 per 1,000 people for older adults, which ranks poorly compared to top-performing states like Hawaii and Idaho, which achieve rates below 16 per 1,000 people.
