Richmond and Burke county grand juries have returned eight indictments in a Medicaid fraud case involving suspects from across the country.
A Richmond County grand jury Tuesday indicted Timothy Smith, Dylan Logsdon and Robert Garcia each on one count of conspiracy to defraud the state and one count of Medicaid fraud, according to a statement from the Crimes against the Vulnerable and Elderly task force. A fourth Augusta suspect, Thomas Eubanks, was indicted for conspiracy to defraud the state.
Last week, a Burke County grand jury indicted Mark Speigner, Ruben Rice, Emery Eubanks and Thomas Alwell for conspiracy to defraud the state and Medicaid fraud, the statement said.
The suspects, arrested July 20 at hotels, reportedly approached lower-income people offering free medical services and DNA swabs, allegedly to screen for cancer, and seeking personal information to use to file false Medicaid claims.
Rice, 31, and Speigner, 65, have Houston, Texas addresses while Alwell, 36, is from Augusta. Emery Eubanks, 22, is from Sesser, Ill., and Thomas Eubanks, 19, is from Christopher, Ill. Smith, 38, is from Struthers, Ohio.
