Governor Greg Abbott is expected to unveil his plan to reopen the economy on Friday. There is a small but vocal group that wants everything to reopen quickly, but public health experts say that could be disastrous.
Dozens of people gathered in front of the governor’s mansion Thursday. “I’m out here today participating in a peaceful protest to let Governor Abbott know that people want to get back to work,” said protester Justin Griss.
Some were wearing masks, and some protesters were social distancing – but all were asking the governor to allow businesses to reopen. “So, I’ve been working from home for the last four weeks and I’m telling you it’s been grueling and I’m one of the lucky ones,” Griss said.
The protesters believe their rights are being taken away. “We aren’t going to listen to these orders because we don’t have to, because they are held to a higher authority,” said organizer Aliya Matheson.
