KanCare company says lawsuit part of $3M extortion

Centene Corp., one of the managed care companies participating in Kansas’ Medicaid program, says a former executive filed a lawsuit against the company as part of a $3 million extortion scheme.

Jaqueline Leary, who was the vice president of network development and contracting for the Centene, filed a lawsuit against the company in October alleging it fraudulently prevented Medicaid patients from seeing higher-cost physicians. She said she made multiple complaints and was later fired for bringing the issue to the attention of her superiors. The petition included charges of wrongful termination and tortious interference.
