A Mississippi man who oversaw two pharmacies in Walker County and a couple of other states has been sentenced to prison for health care fraud and ordered to pay more than $16 million in restitution.
A federal judge in Birmingham on Thursday sentenced Phillip Minga, 56, to 78 months – or 6 ½ years – in prison, according to a joint announcement by Northern District of Alabama U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona and Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Special Agent in Charge Derrick Jackson.
Minga was indicted by a federal grand jury in Alabama earlier this year. In August, he pleaded guilty to four counts of health care fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
He was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler. In addition to prison and restitution, Minga must forfeit $7.1 million to the government.
