More charges filed against Kentucky dentist accused in patient’s overdose death

A Kentucky dentist accused in the overdose death of a patient faces new charges of prescribing drugs illegally.

A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment against Dr. Jay M.

Sadrinia on May 25. Sadrinia was initially charged in April 2022 in connection with writing prescriptions for pain drugs for a patient on four occasions. The prescriptions were not issued for a legitimate medical purpose by a practitioner acting in the usual course of professional practice, the indictment charged.

That indictment included a fifth charge that the patient, a 24-year-old woman identified as C.W., died as a result of using morphine sulfate which Sadrinia prescribed.

  • Hi Kim, I was wondering if you had any specific questions about this case or Dr. Sadrinia. I was a patient of his for years and referred many friends to him. Both myself and some of my closest friends had extensive work done by this man. Including one of my friends who at age 28 had never been to a dentist before- ever. She not only went to her first appointment with Dr. Sadrinia but he treated her so kindly and with the right mix of compassion and matter of fact-ness that she ended up seeing him regularly for years. She got adult braces after many years of hiding her teeth and feeling embarrassed, and was extremely happy with the outcome. I’m certainly sorry that a patient died and my condolences to her family and friends. However, I wish that articles would mention that his clinic specialized in implants, serious procedures that come with significant pain, and sedation dentistry. So to say that he was completely in the wrong and acting “outside the scope” of prescribing and/or treatment standards is not correct, in my opinion. Everyone is different. While you may be able to sit through a root canal without so much as laughing gas, others may not. And truly caring about patient comfort shouldn’t be a crime. I’m sorry if this offends you, it’s truly not my intention. And I assure you that I’m not trying to start an argument either. I just saw your comment and thought maybe I could help. Being a patient and working a few doors down from his office at one point I’m familiar with the area and some of the other factors that I feel were in play behind the scenes of this case. Please feel free to ask me anything and again, I mean no offense. It’s been a very upsetting time and if my comment comes across wrong, I definitely apologize.

    • Hi Kate I feel the same as you about Dr. J I had him for implants and he was awesome. He never over prescribed me anything and he was always so very kind. I am trying to find out if he was ever sent to prison. If anyone knows, please reply!

  • As someone who once worked for him he was good until he wasn’t but he always handed put prescriptions like people do candy at Halloween. I watched him mess up countless times and blame patients about kill someone before this incident ever happened and had multiple workers and patients try yo report him with no where to go to report to. He needed to be shut down for years and I promise that things behind the scenes were far worse than any patient realized so if you didn’t work for him please keep your comments that protect a very toxic and purposely neglectful Dentist to yourself. And as far as comfort goes he prescribed her 60 oxytocin and about 60 morphine tablets from August 4th until the 26th and she was not a big girl. He over prescribed medications all the time.
