South Philadelphia pharmacy, owner pay $1M to settle Medicare fraud charges

A Philadelphia retail pharmacy and its owner have agreed to jointly pay $1 million to resolve allegations they violated the False Claims Act by billing Medicare for prescriptions that were not actually dispensed.

The settlement, which did not include any admission of wrongdoing, was agreed to by LAN Apothecary Inc. and its owner-pharmacist Bachtu M. Phan. The pharmacy is located on South 11th Street in the city’s Bella Vista neighborhood.

The settlement was announced Monday by the U.S. Attorney General’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
