The owner of an Upper Valley durable medical equipment company has been indicted for medicaid fraud.
A 14-count federal indictment was unsealed Thursday against Omar Cuate Canales, who operates Bluebonnet DME in Roma. Canales is charged with submitting false health care statements, along with identity theft and conspiracy. Federal prosecutors say during a 6-year period, Canales submitted numerous claims containing false documentation to Texas Medicaid.
The bogus billing totaled more than $1 million. Canales was taken into custody Thursday. He is to make his initial federal court appearance Friday.
