AUSTIN — There are a few doctors in the Texas Legislature, but the state Capitol is not the place to go for medical attention.Yet, along with public education and transportation funding, health care is expected to get lots of attention this session because the state’s population keeps growing by more than 1,000 a day and a good number of Texans are needy.Nearly 18 percent of the estimated 27 million Texas residents are poor, and, at more than 20 percent, the state has the highest percentage of people in the nation lacking medical insurance, according to federal government figures.
