San Antonio-based Henwood Family Dentistry recently experienced a cybersecurity incident affecting 7,300 people.
The practice discovered Aug. 17 that an unauthorized party accessed certain systems, according to a notice on the practice’s website. An investigation later determined that an unauthorized third party used a remote-access tool to gain access to one of the practice’s desktop computers and accessed the company’s network. Personal information that may have been accessed includes identifying information, contact information, health insurance information and information regarding dental care. The practice said it is aware of one patient who has received communications from the unauthorized party.
The practice said the incident did not disrupt patient care.
