Seven states improved their dental Medicaid benefits from 2024 to 2025, according to a report from the American Dental Association.
In total, 38 states and the District of Columbia provide enhanced adult Medicaid dental benefits, which offers coverage that includes diagnostic, preventive and restorative procedures, and a per-enrollee annual maximum expenditure of at least $1,000 or no annual spending limit.
In 2025, four states improved dental Medicaid benefits for adults from limited, which provides coverage for a subset of services and a per-enrollee annual maximum expenditure of $1,000 or less, to enhanced.
Three states that offered only emergency coverage upgraded to either limited or enhanced coverage.
