Philip Esformes, a recipient of clemency from former President Donald Trump, pleaded guilty to health care fraud on Thursday, marking the resolution of a lengthy legal battle initiated by the Justice Department.
Esformes entered a guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, effectively concluding the DOJ’s pursuit of the convicted fraudster.
Five other charges against him were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Under the terms of the plea deal, Esformes will not face additional jail time beyond the over four years he had already served from his arrest in July 2016 until late 2020 when his sentence was commuted by Trump.
He also avoids further restrictions or fines.
