TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa dentist was charged after not following the proper drug safety protocols during dental procedures, according to court documents filed last month.
Dr. Lauren Whenry, 40, of Tulsa, is facing one count of distribution of a controlled substance and three counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, deceit or misrepresentation, court records show.
The charges come after a 2020 investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics after they received reports of violations of controlled substance prescribing at Dr. Whenry’s south Tulsa practice.
Investigators found bottles of diazepam, a schedule IV controlled and dangerous substance, in the refrigerator with the label partially torn off and found the drug belonged to an employee but was being used on patients during procedures, according to court records.
