UC Health confirmed Thursday it agreed to pay $3.1 million to settle a Medicare fraud lawsuit with nearly $800,000 going to the doctor who allegedly blew the whistle.
Dr. Donald Lynch filed the lawsuit in August 2018 stating that hospital officials illegally billed Medicare for dozens of transcatheter aortic valve replacements.
Mark Byrne, the lawyer representing Lynch, said the hospital was required to meet certain requirements before it could Medicaid, specifically it need to have performed at least 50 surgeries in the prior year.
